In celebration of dedicated service, UCT will host a special farewell luncheon on 6 November 2024 to honour retiring staff members, including Elizabeth Florence De Vos, who has served as a cleaner at the university for 23 years.

De Vos’s commitment and caring spirit have left a lasting impact on her colleagues and students at the Centre for Materials Engineering, where she has worked with pride and joy. Known for her caring and generous spirit, De Vos has been a beloved figure, sharing her work and her friendship with those around her.

Throughout her time at UCT, De Vos has found purpose and fulfilment, enabling her to raise her adopted child and support her community. Now residing in a retirement home in Gugulethu, she plans to continue helping others and extend her kindness to fellow residents in need. Her dedication, humility, and respect legacy leave a meaningful mark on the UCT community. UCT celebrates De Vos and her fellow retirees for the invaluable role of their years of service in shaping UCT’s supportive and inclusive environment.
