Strengthening assessment with the good practices guide

25 February 2025 | DVC Prof Brandon Collier-Reed

Dear colleagues

Assessment is a cornerstone of quality education. At the University of Cape Town (UCT), we are committed to ensuring that our assessment practices are sound and fair. To support this goal, I am delighted to announce the launch of the Good Practices for Assessment Guide (GP4AG). This valuable resource, created to support the implementation of our Assessment Policy, aims to enhance assessments across disciplines.

The guide, produced as part of a University Capacity Development Grant funded project, provides insights into how the principles of the policy can be applied in practice. Whether you are refining your approach to formative assessments or looking to make summative assessments more impactful, GP4AG can help enhance assessment practice.

Assessment Redesign for AI: An Interactive Guide, which you can work through at your own pace, is also available on Amathuba.

This interactive guide has a specific focus on supporting assessment review and redesign in relation to artificial intelligence tools.

Staff are also invited to join the Assessment Studio, which offers staff an opportunity to work in a supportive community when developing and refining their assessment practices.

Let’s work together to advance assessments at UCT.

Sincerely

Professor Brandon Collier-Reed
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
