Four UCT subjects ranked in global top 100
UCT has been ranked among the top 100 universities in four subject areas by the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020 recently released by ShanghaiRanking. The subjects are oceanography, mining and mineral engineering, public health, and clinical medicine.

UCT GSB Executive MBA ranked in global top 50
UCT GSB has sealed its reputation as one of Africa’s top business schools. Its Executive MBA has moved up to 45th place in the world on the prestigious 2020 Quacquarelli Symonds ranking of Executive MBAs, making it the only African business school to feature in the top 50.

Access to illegal firearms plays a huge role in Cape Town’s crime crisis
A recent report by the Mexican Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice ranked Cape Town as the eighth most violent city in the world. Dr Guy Lamb, director of the Safety and Violence Initiative at the University of Cape Town, said access to illegal firearms plays a huge role.

UCT medical team assists in the CTICC ‘Hospital of Hope’
UCT staff members from the Faculty of Health Sciences are part of a team involved in the operation of the ‘Hospital of Hope’ at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The CTICC was repurposed into an 862-bed field hospital as part of the Western Cape Government’s health strategy to increase capacity to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its communities.

Africa must bridge digital divide to adapt to e-learning technology, UCT study
Research by UCT PhD student Matthias Krönke reveals that 34 African countries – surveyed for his paper titled “Africa’s digital divide and the promise of e-learning” – are on strikingly different levels when it comes to this fast-emerging global phenomenon.
