Scientists to contribute to the development of sustainable marine aquaculture in Africa
World per capita fish consumption is expected to increase by 2030 with the exception of Africa, due to population growth outpacing supply on this continent. This raises food and nutrition security issues owing to the high prevalence of malnutrition in the region and the contribution of fish to total animal intake in many African countries.

UCT introduces special tribunal and online reporting tool to deal with GBV cases
The University of Cape Town has introduced with immediate effect a special ad hoc tribunal to deal with cases of gender-based violence. The university has also created an online reporting tool that makes the reporting of sexual and gender-based violence user-friendly and accessible.

The University of Cape Town executive issued the below communication to the campus community on Thursday, 5 September. This follows both the memorial service for Ms Uyinene Mrwetyana and the mass picket to Parliament, which took place on Wednesday, 4 September.

UCT Chancellor urges everyone to pledge to take action against Gender-Based Violence
The University of Cape Town Chancellor Mrs Graça Machel has urged everyone to pledge to take action to ensure that South Africa is a safe country for women and children. Speaking at the memorial service of the late Uyinene Mrwetyana on Wednesday, Mrs Machel expressed the collective pain experienced by all across campus following the passing of the first-year film and media studies student.

UCT Lung Institute celebrates 20 years
The excellent work done by the University of Cape (UCT) Lung Institute was highlighted when the institute celebrated its 20-year anniversary recently.
