Dear students and colleagues
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is hosting a special memorial service to honour the memory of our fallen colleague Professor Bongani Mayosi on Thursday, 2 August 2018, from 15:30 for 16:00 in Memorial Hall.
We are aware that many people will want to be part of this occasion even if they cannot make it to campus, so we will be live-streaming the service via www.uct.ac.za.
This memorial service and many others happening on campus are part of our healing process as a community.
If you would like to send a message of condolence and support to the Mayosi family, you can do so via RememberingMayosi@uct.ac.za. We will be posting selected tributes to Professor Mayosi on a memorial page on the UCT website. Please take a moment to visit this page and to reflect on Professor Mayosi’s legacy and how we can encourage one another the way he encouraged us.
As I have said, Professor Mayosi was an inspiration to all of us, especially to black students. He represented black excellence – he was living proof that black researchers and scholars can be the best in the world in whatever they do. He was that message walking around on campus.
We can all honour his legacy, regardless of our race, by becoming that message to each other and the world.
Sincerely
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
