17 March 2017 Dear neighbour I am writing to you on behalf of the University of Cape Town to express heartfelt thanks for your encouraging response to our appeal for affordable accommodation space for our students. We have received overwhelming offers of help from residents in the southern suburbs who understand the need for students to have housing in an affordable price range and without having to pay a security deposit. Unfortunately, some of the offers could not be taken up as they were outside the 20 km radius where students need to stay, but we appreciate those offers and the extraordinary spirit of generosity they demonstrated. Your willingness to assist not only helped UCT to meet its need but, more importantly, opened up an opportunity for a student to have a place to rest and study towards that all-important university degree. You are contributing towards the life-changing experience a student will have at university. While we recognise that this is an economic transaction, I trust that you will find the experience to be a rewarding one on many different levels. I learn a great deal from the students I get to know, and I am glad that you will have this opportunity too. If UCT can assist you in this experience, please do not hesitate to contact our Off-Campus Student Accommodation Services on 021 650 4934 or ocsas@uct.ac.za. Sincerely Professor Loretta Feris |
