High drama: After months of preparation, UCT residence students take to the planks for the next three nights for the annual Res 4 Res Theatre Festival, in which they will showcase their dramaturgical talents.

Organised as part of the culture programme of the Office of Residence Life in collaboration with UCT's Department of Drama, Res 4 Res showcases the thespian skills of mostly non-drama students, all living in residence, in a series of short plays. Sixteen UCT residences - a record for the event - are signed up for the cultural stand-off, with tantalising prizes on offer for the most impressive performances.

The annual theatre festival, staged in the Little Theatre on the Hiddingh campus, is open to the entire UCT community. Opening night is on 8 August, with the show running every evening until 10 August. The curtains swing open at 19h30.

Expect to be taken along a dramatic journey from a rural village to Johannesburg, experience the chilling tensions of a suburban family leaving too much unsaid, and get yanked onto an emotional roller-coaster as students unlock their inner actors under the guidance of festival co-ordinators Tanya Heywood and Danieyella Rodin.

Tickets for Res 4 Res are available in residences or on UCT's Upper Campus. Contact 021 480 7129 for bookings.
