Professor Keertan Dheda, head of the Division of Pulmonology in UCT’s Department of Medicine, recently delivered a keynote address at the 2017 American Thoracic Society Conference in Washington DC. The event is the largest global respiratory conference in the world, attended by approximately 17 000 delegates from over 100 countries.
The keynote address recognises leading international scientific excellence in a particular scientific field of pulmonary medicine.
One of only four leading global experts invited to deliver a keynote address, Dheda’s lecture was titled, “Changing face of an old enemy: New insights into the pathogenesis and management of drug resistant TB”.
A certificate of commendation for expertise in his particular discipline of pulmonary medicine was awarded to Prof Dheda and the event was covered in the local American news.
