To mark Human Rights Month, Rainbow UCT is calling on all members of the university community to join them as they march in solidarity with the trans community at 12:45 on Wednesday, 27 March.

There is currently a shortage of testosterone in the country, and it’s not the first time South Africa has seen a deficit of hormones required by trans people, say the march organisers who attribute the situation to a lack of urgency around timeous ordering and insufficient regard for those who are affected.

To highlight the unsatisfactory situation, they will march to raise awareness of how the status quo is affecting trans people, and to make a stand against the apathy of the government and pharmaceutical companies.

  • Marchers will meet at the Plaza on upper campus at 12:45. Dress code is the trans flag colours: blue, pink and white, and participants are asked to take along their own placards.
