UCT ready to host sports medicine conference

The three-day South African Sports Medicine Association conference will take place in Stellenbosch from 17 to 19 October.

The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Dr Sharief Hendricks, in his capacity as president of the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA), will host the 2024 SASMA Conference from 17 to 19 October in Stellenbosch.

It is the largest multidisciplinary professional and scientific sports medicine and science conference on the continent. “As a showcase of our multidisciplinary strength – the theme of the conference is ‘Breaking Boundaries in Sport Medicine and Science’,” Dr Hendricks said.

The conference will include highly acclaimed international and local speakers with sessions on injury and illness prevention and management, concussion, physical activity, exercise and health promotion, sports nutrition, paediatrics and exercise, the female athlete, long-term athlete welfare, Olympic and Paralympic medicine, clinical case and much more.
