Staff at the University of Cape Town (UCT) are encouraged to join the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) virtual engagement session on Monday, 7 June, from 12:00 to 13:30, before the act comes into effect on 1 July.
The personal information of staff, students, research participants and other third-party organisations is essential at UCT and contributes to overall operations efficiency. In light of this, the event has been organised to provide staff with a comprehensive overview of the act, flesh out Universities South Africa’s (USAf) POPIA guidelines and outline the processes for POPIA compliance at UCT. The university’s POPIA team will be available throughout the session to answer any questions.
Earlier this year, USAf issued a list of guidelines that offer a high-level POPIA overview and provides direction on how public universities should successfully implement the act.
