In remembrance: Vukile Tyalidikazi

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our colleague, Mr Vukile Tyalidikazi (57), on Thursday, 5 September 2024.

Mr Tyalidikazi served as a student housing cleaner in the Department of Student Housing & Residence Life under the Department of Student Affairs. He took up the role on 1 May 2016 and was based at Woolsack Residence at the time of his passing.

His colleagues remember him for the lasting impact he made on the Woolsack Residence cleaning team and his role as a shop steward for the Democratised Transport Logistics and Allied Workers Union. He will be fondly remembered for his outstanding work ethic, kindness and generosity. Colleagues remember how he exemplified dedication, making invaluable contributions to the team’s work and inspiring many through his guidance and mentorship.

Mr Tyalidikazi is survived by his wife, Nokwaka; children, Yolanda, Apiwe, Yonda, Zintle and Tina; mother, Nobantu; brother, Bangile; and sister, Nomakhaya.

His funeral was held on Sunday, 15 September 2024 in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, 12 September 2024 at Rochester House Hall.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Tyalidikazi family. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
