In remembrance: Ernest Matiso

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mr Ernest Matiso (54), a food service assistant at the Fuller Residence’s kitchen. Mr Matiso passed away at home in Ntlalontle, Cacadi (formerly Lady Frere) on Friday, 3 January 2025 following a short illness.
He joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) as a food service assistant in July 2016.
Mr Matiso will be fondly remembered by colleagues for his quiet, respectful demeanour. He has been described as someone who was loyal to his team and enjoyed his work. His colleagues said he was a humble, kind and friendly gentleman who was always willing to help where he could. He had a shy smile and was loved by his colleagues.
He is survived by his wife, Sister; and five children, Anathi, Sithulile, Nobuhle, Mnikelo and Sange.
Mr Matiso was laid to rest on Saturday, 11 January 2025 in Cacadu, Eastern Cape. A memorial service for colleagues to pay their last respects will be held by the department on Tuesday,11 February 2025 at Fuller Hall at 14:00.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Matiso family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of bereavement.
