AT THE recent 25th Annual meeting of the International Breast Cancer Study Group Meeting held in Rimini, Italy, Sister Elene McEvoy in the Division of Radiation Oncology at Groote Schuur Hospital received the highest award from this organisation in recognition of her high level of accuracy in maintaining patient related data and reporting.
McEvoy's award recognises her work as Data Manager at the Breast Cancer Clinic in Groote Schuur Hospital. "As Data Manager she is responsible for sending data about breast cancer survival patients to the International Breast Cancer Study Group, so far her contributions have led to a 91% data input, the highest in the world," explains Professor Dudley Werner, Head of the Department of Oncology.
"This is in fact the fifth such award which she has received and the staff of this division are very proud of her achievements, which are reflective of her dedication to duty and her superb work," says Werner.
McEvoy is modest about her contribution. "I am just doing my job, I really do not know what all the fuss is about," she says.
