The donor, Shaileen Davis, graduated from UCT in 1995 and, though she now lives abroad, still holds her alma mater in high esteem.
"As a UCT alumna, I was fortunate to receive partial financial assistance towards the completion of my French Honours degree. And it is in this respect that I wish to donate R22 000," she explains.
Though not a graduate of SACM, Davis has been kept abreast of the achievements and challenges that the College is facing through Dr Brad Liebl of the SACM, who was introduced to Davis by a mutual acquaintance several years ago.
The donation is called The Dr Brad Liebl Discretionary Fund, and will be used to employ a piano accompanist for classical vocal students and also for a bursary for a classical vocal student. Liebl will manage the fund.
