Celebrating local African cuisine

23 September 2002
THE 2002 African Food Festival will take place from September 23 to 28. The festival is part of an initiative by the UCT Centre for Popular Memory and is the first of its kind in Cape Town.

Daytime events will involve food related exhibitions, dance, music, food competitions and traditional food tasting. The daytime exhibition will be hosted at Eziko in Langa and entrance will cost R20.

In the evening, chefs specialising in African cuisine will treat patrons at selected restaurants to a three-course African dinner using ingredients indigenous to the Western Cape. Ticket prices vary from R150 for a single ticket to R200 for a double.

Proceeds from these events will go to UCT facilitated African food projects that include the training programmes for township bed and breakfasts, a Xhosa recipe book and the development of an accredited African food-training module.
