Wrong forum

The biggest challenge–was to stay awake during the speech given by Dr Pallo Jordan at UCT's 175th anniversary in Jameson Hall on Friday, May 7.

His speech was peppered with pomposity, historical inaccuracies and completely the wrong forum to launch into a tirade on the oppressors of the past. He is in dire need of a good press agent!

In addition, a good stopwatch would be a great thank - you present!

Luckily, chancellor Graça Machel saved the evening with a short, memorable speech reflecting the true spirit of the evening.

Fortunately, Dr Jordan's tirade was the exception to an otherwise superbly organised evening.
