Hockey in brief

24 May 2004
  • The men's side kept up its run of good results by beating the Western Province Cricket Club by 3-1 on Sunday, May 16. Dylan Ball, back after injury, netted twice, while Matthew McConkey scored the third.
  • Three UCT players - Kerry Bee, Natalie le Brun and Kerry Skinner - have helped Western Province win their first Spar Women's Hockey Interprovincial title in nine years. WP beat Southern Gauteng 3-2 in the final of the competition, played in Potchefstroom recently. The win brought to an end Southerns' eight-year reign at the event, reported Independent Online, and the first time since 1995 that WP took top honours. Bee, the WP and UCT captain, was playing in her eleventh consecutive tournament. "That's it, there's nothing to say," joked Bee after the match. "I'm retiring now."
