The Western Province Grand Challenge has reached its final stages, and clubs are giving it one last push for title honours. UCT men beat Stellenbosch 2-1 on Sunday, August 27, helping their bid for second spot on the log. (Alas, no-one's going to catch Pinelands, who've already wrapped up the title.) UCT women's first side will finish second as well, but haven't played a game for about two weeks because of provincial commitments.
Rugby
The FNB UCT First XV took one more step towards second spot on the Western Province Super League when they beat Collegians by 34-15 - touching down five times - in Mitchell's Plain on Saturday, August 26. UCT now stands on 51 points for the season, just one less than SK Walmers, but with two games in hand. Bar a major slump in form, Stellenbosch should be crowned league winners yet again this year.
