Deputy Vice-Chancellors Professors Cheryl de la Rey and Martin Hall have been re-appointed for second terms of office.
Hall's current responsibilities include planning and budgeting. He is affiliated to the Graduate School of Business, where he teaches and carries out research on the intersection of the public and private sectors, entrepreneurship and the role of "knowledge organisations" in advancing development in highly unequal societies.
Trained as an archaeologist, he has written extensively on pre-colonial and colonial history and on contemporary public culture. He is a past president of the World Archaeological Congress and a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa and of UCT.
De la Rey's current responsibilities include research and innovation. She is a registered psychologist and a Fellow of the Psychological Society of South Africa. Her research interests are social psychology, specialising in gender, race and leadership.
She also serves on a number of boards: as chair of the South Africa-Netherlands Research Programme on Alternatives in Development; chair of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa Board of Control; the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the National Advisory Council on Innovation, and the South African Reference Group on Women in Science and Technology.
