Daniel Fourie, former public relations officer at UCT, has passed away. The 83-year-old Fourie died of a heart attack and was buried on July 23. Fourie's career at UCT began in October 1956 when he was employed as PRO for the Administration Department. A few years later, he performed the same duties for the then vice-chancellor, Dr Stuart Saunders. In a performance appraisal report, Saunders said Fourie had been involved in many of the problems relating to UCT administration and growth, and had carried out his duties with "great skill and sensitivity". Prior to joining UCT, Fourie did clerical work for the Cape Provincial Administration, served in the army in Egypt and Italy from 1944 to 1945, and worked for the Department of Labour in Cape Town. He is survived by his wife.
