Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards for Global Citizenship and Service Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards aim to recognise members of the UCT community who make an outstanding contribution to the university’s mission and objectives through innovation or improvement in services, and/or sustained exceptional performance in an area or areas beneficial to the university and its strategic imperatives. The Global Citizenship Award and Service Excellence Award were handed over at UCT’s virtual Annual Awards ceremony on 2 December 2020.

UCT Annual Awards 2020

On Wednesday, 2 December, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng hosted the UCT Annual Awards 2020, which serve to honour and celebrate exceptional individuals at UCT for their contributions through excellence and dedication in research, teaching and service.

The celebration acknowledged 225 staff receiving Long Service Awards and the recipients of the Distinguished Teacher Award, the Alan Pifer Research Award and the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. The evening also recognised those staff members who have received ad hominem promotions this year.

Professor Elmi Muller wins the 2019 Alan Pifer Award

The award recognises Muller’s groundbreaking work in establishing transplantation between HIV-positive donors and HIV-positive recipients in South Africa and beyond.
