UCT Staff Awards: Celebrating excellence and dedication

On 27 November 2024, the University of Cape Town (UCT) held its Annual Staff Awards to celebrate the dedication, innovation, and long-term service of its academic and professional community. The event recognised the invaluable contributions of educators who shape future generations and honoured researchers who push the boundaries of knowledge, highlighting the university's commitment to excellence.

The evening also paid tribute to individuals whose work extends beyond UCT, influencing national and international policies. Additionally, it celebrated staff members who played pivotal roles in major initiatives. Long-service awards recognised those with decades of unwavering dedication, some spanning over 45 years, reflecting the lasting impact of their contributions.

The ceremony emphasised UCT’s commitment to global citizenship and its pursuit of transformative education and research.

UCT Staff Awards 2024

On Wednesday, 27 November, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela hosted the UCT Staff Awards 2024, which served to honour and celebrate exceptional individuals at UCT for their contributions through excellence and dedication in research, teaching and service.

The celebration acknowledged staff receiving Long Service Awards and the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards. Awards presented at this year’s event included the UCT Book Award, Meritorious Book Prize, UCT Creative Works Award, Meritorious Creative Works Award, Fellowship Award and Social Responsiveness Award. The evening also hailed staff members who have received ad hominem promotions that will take effect at the beginning of 2025.
