The Faculty of Commerce graduation ceremony was held in at 09:00 on Friday, 14 December.
During the ceremony, the President of Convocation Medal was awarded to UCT alumnus Professor Pumla Dineo Gqola for her significant contributions to African literature.
As part of righting past social injustices, UCT Council and Senate invited past students to attend “re-graduations”. One of these “restorative rituals” took place during the ceremony when Erik George Eduard Jacques Vicher received his Bachelor of Commerce degree.
They keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony was Mamello Selamolela: a UCT alumnus, managing executive for Vodacom’s central region and an expert in the telecommunications industry, who shared with graduands her projections for work in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and what it meant to be African in a future world.
