When Luhlanganiso Majebe became the first recipient of the Uyinene Mrwetyana Scholarship at the University of Cape town (UCT), she understood that the opportunity offered more than just financial support, it was a call to leadership. The Uyinene Mrwetyana Scholarship was founded in honour of the late Uyinene Mrwetyana, a South African UCT student who was killed in Cape Town in August 2019.
Now a Dean's Merit List graduate in Political Studies and Law, Majebe has dedicated her academic journey to challenging gender-based violence, both in theory and in practice
Through her activism, academic excellence and commitment to community empowerment, Luhlanganiso continues to honour Uyinene’s legacy – while forging her own. Having just completed her undergraduate degree, she is now pursuing a postgraduate LLB, driven by a vision to transform South Africa’s legal spaces.
