Campus is huge. Cape Town stretches all the way from Atlantis to Cape Point, and getting around takes time – especially if you need to get to one of UCT’s satellite facilities. Here’s how to get going …

1. Walk about – it’s practical and the easiest way to get around campus. But wear comfortable shoes and get ready to climb loads of stairs. Walk in groups whenever possible, especially after dark, and remember that Campus Protection Services is there to help.
2. Go for a ride – if you have a bicycle, use it. There are designated cycle lanes on campus, and if you need to make your way into the city, you’ll find a few there too.
3. Hit the road – hop onto your scooter or motorbike and make your way to campus. But don’t forget to get a black parking disc from traffic admin on upper campus first.
4. Jammie Shuttle – the Jammie service is free for UCT students and will transport you between campuses and other parts of the city seven days a week. Visit the Jammie Shuttle web page for up-to-date route maps and timetables, or download the Jammie Shuttle App.
5. Call a cab – Cape Town has many cab services to choose from and they’re on call 24/7.
6. Take a taxi – minibus taxis operate on most major city routes and they’re cheap! Simply signal the direction you wish to take and you’ll be on your way in a jiffy.
7. It’s my city – the MyCiTi bus service is convenient and connects with the Jammie Shuttle at Gardens station on Buitenkant Street and makes its way to several areas in and around Cape Town. Get your MyConnect card at MyCiTi station kiosks and participating retailers and start your journey.
8. Train hopping – the Metrorail train stops at the Observatory, Mowbray, Rosebank and Rondebosch railway stations. Trains are often delayed, so visit the Metrorail website for updates and fares.
9. Board the bus – Golden Arrow Bus Services operate on many city routes and the buses are accessible from the Jammie Shuttle stops in Claremont and Mowbray. Visit the Golden Arrow website for more information.

Note: First-year students are not allowed to bring cars onto campus, but you can park at Rhodes Memorial if you have a parking disc. They’re available from traffic admin on upper campus.
