SET Week in May
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will host its annual National Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Week from May 5 to 10.
SET week, which is managed by the Foundation for Education, Science and Technology (FEST), has become South Africa's premier celebration of science, engineering and technology.
The event is open to the public. It provides a framework for those involved in promoting the public understanding of science, engineering and technology, as well to showcase a broad variety of activities aimed at increasing the public's understanding and appreciation of science, engineering and technology. It also provides an opportunity to reach those members of the public not usually part of the scientific and technological community.

EBE student council nets FNB sponsorship
The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment's (EBE) student council is the recipient of a R60 000 sponsorship from First National Bank (FNB). The endorsement is the largest the faculty has received from FNB, who in 2002 furnished the EBE student council with R20 000 for their RAG float and the first ever EBE graduation ball.
According to Thomas Brennan, President of the EBE student council, so far the money has been used to fund Orientation Week activities and the EBE RAG float, but other plans in the pipeline include a lecture series, publications and a graduation ball.
