A tourism conference titled Safety and Security: New Driver of Tourism Economies, will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from October 15 to 16. Among those involved in the conference is UCT's Richard George, lecturer and convenor of the postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management in the School of Management Studies. Speakers at the conference will include Valli Moosa, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, who will speak on global tourism and the future. Andre Pruis, National Deputy Commissioner for the South African Police Services, will speak on the national crime strategy, Michael Ononaiye, a former Nigerian representative to the United Nations, will discuss perspectives on Africa and how these influence the world view of safety and security. Also among the line-up is Dr Ali Bacher, former chairman of the United Cricket Board, who will speak of the experiences gained during the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
