He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything, goes the Arabian proverb. Don't forget the UCT Wellness Week from October 6 to 8 in the quad of the Humanities Graduate School Building on University Avenue South, upper campus.
A feast of exhibitors will be waiting to pamper you. And if you visit during lunchtime you can join in some interactive participation or information sessions.
Most importantly, don't forget the stress management workshop from 11h30 to 14h30 on October 6, in LT 3. But please do book for this. The session will be cancelled if there are less than 20 participants.
The Direct AIDS Intervention (DAI) group will have information sessions and will be giving away free gifts to those attending. Optisite will check your vision. Book your slot with the Cape Town Academy of Shiatsu (they work on the body's pressure points) or with the other complementary therapies.
The UCT Lung Institute and Skin Clinic will be there, providing a golden opportunity to market their services to staff. A dermatologist will be on hand to examine any pesky moles you might be worried about (from 12h30 to 13h00), and an expert between 11h00 and 13h00 to advice on allergies, smoking-related lung disease or your lung function test.
Other exhibitors you can visit include Galderma, Herbology, Sportron, who can advise you on whole food supplements, Aleo Ferox, manufacturers of aloe skin products, Smokenders and Weigh-Less.
For those living with friends, family or colleagues who are alcoholics, Al Anon will be on hand to answer questions and provide support.
Bring your Health Passports as the UCT Hospital will have an info stand and staff will offer cholesterol and blood pressure screening from 12h00 to 14h00 every day.
There are free gifts and hampers from some of the exhibitors. All sessions are free except the Body IQ fitness testing, which costs R139.
Bookings can be made on the Netscape Resource Calendar site. If you do not have access, please e-mail Ottoline Clapham oclapham@bremner.uct.ac.za.
