RAG committee ready to take charge

13 August 2007

The newly elected 2007/2008 RAG executive committee is busy at work with preparations for the incoming RAG year.

Preparations are at their peak with the executive working on securing existing corporate partners and pitching several other companies in order to fund both the traditional projects and the soon-to-be-introduced projects.

RAG, with assistance from corporate partners, are looking to raise R1.5 million in 2008 for its sole beneficiary charity, the Students' Health and Welfare Centres Organisation (SHAWCO), fulfilling what RAG stands for, Remember And Give.

Traditionally, RAG will continue with its famous annual projects - Orientation Week, the Big Bash (the biggest student music festival in Cape Town), SAX Appeal (a themed day when students dress up and sell over 50 000 magazines), the RAG Olympics on Jammie Plaza, the Cape Town community's Floats Parade, the more diverse Kirstenbosch Concert (previously known as the Soweto String Quartet Concert), and the infamous Fashion Month project.

In addition to that, RAG 2008 will be spicing up the UCT social arena with new projects spread out across the year, such as the Pimp my Ride project, the Buddy Up campaign, and the end-of-year bash, a new addition to their calendar.

RAG is offering students from all faculties, be they undergraduates and postgraduates, an opportunity to be a part of the team that offers all these great projects to the UCT community.

Applications for the General Committee open on 7 August and close on 17 August. For more information or application forms, visit the redesigned website www.uctrag.com, call the RAG Office at 021 650 3525, or visit the RAG office on level 5, Steve Biko Student Union, above the food court.
