The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Institute for Creative Arts has again teamed up with curator Jay Pather to present Infecting the City 2019, a six-day festival of public arts that will transform the city between 18 and 24 November.

South Africa’s longest-running arts festival, Infecting the City has for the past 12 years transformed Cape Town’s communal spaces into spectacular outdoor entertainment venues showcasing an array of energising and inspiring art forms.

With work based in classical African tradition an emerging theme in this year’s proposals, Infecting the City 2019 will also tackle issues such as women empowerment with productions that are performed, curated and directed by women, according to Pather.

This year’s festival will comprise six different routes winding their way through the cityscape – three day-time routes and three evening routes from 18:00 to 21:00. Audiences can expect everything from vertical dancers on city walls to performance activities in parked cars, activating spaces from the Castle of Good Hope to Cape Town Station, also taking in St George’s Cathedral.
