The 2025 Summer School was once again a hit amongst attendees as they immersed themselves in 101 years of curious learning with a motley of talks, presentations, tours and engagement. Hosted at the University of Cape Town (UCT) from 20 January to 1 February, audiences got to hear a legacy conversation from UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela, an eerie breakdown of the world of organised crime and disinformation and participated in campus tours.

Other topics covered included a different view of apartheid struggle icons, Nelson and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela; as well as heeding lessons from four-time Rugby World Cup winners, the Springboks. “The 2025 programme is emblematic of outstanding scholarship and intellectual rigour, presented by staff, post-graduate students, past and retired university staff, as well as thought leaders, authors, luminaries and scholars from South Africa and across the world, many with deep ties to the university,” said Development and Alumni Department executive director, Sarah Archer.
