'Our children are benefitting from work done by those before us'

Excited parents had big smiles on their faces as they were welcomed to the University of Cape Town (UCT), along with their children, when the institution hosted more than 4 000 first-year students for Parent Orientation 2025. Held on 1 February, at the Sarah Baartman Hall, the occasion marked the first of many milestones their children will encounter on this lifelong education journey.

“Getting in is one thing, but getting through is another,” said Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela. Addressing parents and guardians, he added: “Our children are benefitting because of the work others did before us to bring us to this point. I invite you to be an active participant, a partner [and] to be a UCT parent.”
