ALL AFRICA House was the venue of the recent launch of the much anticipated authorised biography of two of South Africa's most respected and loved political figures.
Penned by their daughter-in-law and former African Gender Institute fellow, Elinor Sisulu,
Walter and Albertina Sisulu. In our lifetime tells the life story of the couple's role in the struggle against Apartheid.
Sisulu had unrivalled access to her subject and to personal and family letters as well as previously classified security police and police documents, which are incorporated in the book.
Ten years in the making, the book has been a labour of love for Sisulu who in 1992 was awarded a book grant by the Ford Foundation, to put pen to paper about her famous in-laws.
No stranger to writing, Sisulu is a former assistant editor for
SPEAK, a feminist magazine for black working class and rural women, and in 1996 her book
The Day Gogo Went to Vote was published in the United States, where it was on the Notable Books lists of the International Reading Association, the Smithsonian Institute and the American Library Association.
The book was published in seven major South African languages in 1997.
