International affairs magazine launched

25 April 2006

The Globalist Foundation at Yale University has invited UCT students to join their prestigious network of undergraduate international affairs magazines currently published at Yale, Cambridge and the Universities of Toronto, Sydney, Peking and Jerusalem.

The Centre for Film and Media Studies will host the first edition of the new Cape Town Globalist, which will be distributed by the end of the first semester, 2006.

Editor-in-chief Greg Eden says that the magazine is in a particularly interesting position. "We have the chance to take the lead among our elite network in discussions about Africa and the developing world."

Taking their cue from President Thabo Mbeki's state-of-the-nation address, the first edition will use hope as the theme to contextualise a broad array of topics and debates.

The magazine's priority is to heighten awareness of international affairs, particularly South Africa's relationship with the rest of the world, among tertiary level students, helping to build an international network of future leaders.

UCT students have been invited to submit article ideas to the editorial committee. Staff and senior students are also welcome to publicise their research by nominating themselves or colleagues as interview subjects.

Selected articles from the different university chapters are published in the Globalist Foundation's Annual Edition. This offers students an unprecedented chance to have their ideas and insights circulated at leading international universities.
