Students more than just talk
Emer Prof Luigi Nassimbeni, in his capacity as chair of the South African Friulian Society, which encourages and supports the study of all things Italian, presented Sanja Stanojevic with the society's annual scholarship as best first-year student from the Italian Studies Section in 2005. Stanojevic was but one of the nearly 50 students to pick up about 90 medals plus book prizes and scholarships on offer at the School of Languages and Literatures' (SLL) annual class medal ceremony, held two weeks ago. At the event, SLL's eight sections recognised those students who excelled in 2005. As usual, the occasion attracted international guests - this year consul-generals Dr Domingo Alvim (Portuguese embassy) and Dr Alberto Vecchi (Italian) made the trip to UCT to present students with their awards.
