Graduating students Sibu Dlova, Bianca Dolly, Taru Madangombe and Heskin Mzungu show the results of their electrical engineering design course are not limited to marks. Their "spacer-maker" quickly and easily makes a hole, the exact size of an asthma inhaler's nozzle, in a plastic bottle. The bottle-spacer, proposed by the UWC Pharmacy School, makes it easier for young asthma patients to inhale their medication. Thanks to the UCT students' spacer-maker, the bottle-spacer costs much less than a commercially available spacer because the operating costs of the spacer-maker are just half a cent per bottle. The students will donate 20 to hospital pharmacists in the Eastern and Western Cape.
