Third-year film and media students proved themselves frame by frame to be thought-provoking and inventive in the Centre For Film and Media Studies' end-of-year showcase and prize-giving. Among the selected best print projects was Rubber, Leather and Latex by Meg de Jong, who won the class medal for best overall academic achievement. "I lived, ate and breathed like a biker for a few weeks," De Jong said. She based her story on a group of Cape Town bikers called The Hell Razors, with whom she hung out for those weeks. Best screen project went to Rossouw Nel for his direction and writing of Don't Be So Sure About It, a quirky exposé on stereotypes in South Africa. Anja Stoeckigt received the Robin Cohen Prize for best senior research project, for Oh Poo, a claymation cartoon about a blind mole. Best interactive projects went to Jeremy Smith and Mari Kirsten for Rebirth. Some 21 students won prizes in five groups.
