Applause for drama's nominees

19 February 2007

Third-year theatre and performance student Charlie Keegan has been nominated for Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards' Most Promising Student category, one of a raft of drama department's affiliates and alumni who are up for acting, directing and staging honours. Eighteen of 52 nominees have UCT stamped on their passports to fame. Also in Keegan's category are two 2006 graduates, Briony Horwitz and Ntombi Makhutshi. Luminaries like senior lecturer Geoff Hyland (Twelfth Night) and Ilka Louw (Little Theatre wardrobe co-ordinator) are up for best director and best costume and prop design, respectively. Master's student Claire Watling has been nominated for best supporting actress for her role, Feste the Clown, in Twelfth Night. Hyland's star is certainly shining: his production of Twelfth Night is represented in seven categories. The awards take place on March 4.
