In the article on the 60th anniversary of the Scientific and Technical Officers' Association in vol 26.16 of 29 October (STOA turns 60) we incorrectly attributed a quote to Shireen Govender, former chairperson of the association, that the STOA was founded to promote the interests of scientific and technical officers at UCT, "then mostly white, male mechanical engineers". Govender did not refer to engineers, of course, but engineering technicians.
In the previous issue of Monday Paper (Vol 26.17) the article titled Memory of slavery resurrected through powerful work of fiction incorrectly stated that "the campus grounds were once home to hundreds of slaves, many of whom still lie buried in the Rustenburg Slave Burial Ground on Middle Campus". The sentence should have read, "the campus grounds were once also home to slaves, some of whom were buried in the Rustenburg Slave Burial Ground on Middle Campus".
We regret the errors.
