First cohort: Graduands Maria Knudsen, Hannah Schultz and Romy Strauss are among the first economic history majors. The course was re-introduced in 2005 after the department closed in 1992. |
This week will see the first group of economic history majors graduating since the demise of the economic history department in 1992.
The major was re-introduced in the Department of Historical Studies three years ago.
"Economic history provides an opportunity to broaden horizons and expand knowledge of economies, people and societies over time," said Associate Professor Anne Mager.
Mager said the re-introduction of an economic history major could be seen both as curriculum development and curriculum transformation as it addresses important issues for developing economies, comparing other economies in the southern world (Latin America, Africa and Asia).
The capping course for the major is a research project.
