On Sunday, 18 April 2021, a runaway fire that started on the slopes of Devil’s Peak swept through several iconic buildings at the University of Cape Town (UCT), leaving devastation in its wake and ravaging the UCT Libraries’ Special Collections. Students had to be evacuated to safety as firefighters worked against the strong wind to contain the raging blaze, and classes and tutorials were suspended. Photographers were there to capture it all on camera.
