ALL PROFESSIONAL and support staff (payclass 10 and above) have been encouraged to attend the monthly meetings of the PASS Forum.
The Forum was established in May this year and meetings are held in the Senate Room on the first Thursday of every month (following the Council meeting on the Wednesday) between 08h30 and 10h30. Lesley Shackleton, a staff representative (payclasses 5 to 14) on the Council, said the PASS Forum was distinct from the UCT Employees Union. "The focus is on communication to ensure the optimal functioning of UCT, rather than on lobbying for conditions of employment, etc," she explained.
The Forum meetings will thus be devoted to communicating important issues and decisions to the professional and support staff (who do not have Senate, which is the academics' means of communication).
It will also act as a forum for these staffers to raise issues and to ask questions of UCT executive officers who will feature on the monthly programmes.
