GSB inmates run amok in prison

05 August 2002
ALLOWING their students a break from their demanding studies, the Graduate School of Business (GSB) hosted its annual Savanna Jailyard Sprint at its Breakwater Campus on Friday, July 19.

The prestigious race has over the years established itself as one of the highlights in the GSB's social calendar. This particular Friday evening the usually placid corridors of the Breakwater Prison were transformed into a crazy frenzy of participants competing in the various events.

Of the many highlights of the evening, the traditional race, a straight sprint around the history-steeped corridors, brought out the best of competitors. After several elimination rounds, Margot McMaster won the women's race, while Charlie de Villiers took top honours in the men's event.

But the evening was not just about competition, but rather about having fun, as evinced in the Best Dress challenge. The variety of dress was mind boggling, including everything from team 'princess' to team 'plastic'. The winners of this segment of the evening's entertainment, however, were the members of the Prisoners' team who looked very at home in their gaolish surroundings.

Just as with many of the other great business schools around the world, the GSB is creating a name for its unique character with an event such as this bearing testimony to its spirit.
