First African in space?

14 October 2002
SOMETHING of interest... Does anyone remember Patrick Baudry who participated in several NASA flights and space experiments?

He came from the United Republic of Cameroon and received his tertiary education in the USA. He was spoken of as the first African in space at the time but he seems to have been completely forgotten.

More information here.

It's not the first time that Baudry's name has come up in the Shuttleworth saga. Some months ago, a spokesperson from Interactive Africa – the company responsible for managing most of Shuttleworth's odyssey – argued that Baudry had participated in the NASA flights as a French citizen – see http://cooltech.iafrica.com/spacetourist/news/929635.htm and http://www.sabcnews.com/sci_tech/science/0,1009,32897,00.html – while Shuttleworth flew under the South African flag.
