Technophiles, gadget geeks and the rest of the geekerati were in their element at the recent ICTS Technology Festival, aka TechFest, hosted by Information and Communication Technology Services at the end of March.
Run over two days this year - due to the festival's growing popularity - the event allowed the university's approved ICT vendors to showcase the latest gadgets and gizmos either already on the market, or soon to be released.
Tablets (of the iPad rather than pharmaceutical variety) hogged most of the limelight, but also on display were notebooks of every brand and spec, plus a gallery of servers, multitasking printers, software and peripherals.
UCT does business to the tune of around R20 million a year with ICT vendors, so the TechFest allows departments to get in some early window-shopping, explains Margherita Introna, team leader of Acquisition Services at ICTS.
Vendors also generously footed the bill for all the foodstuffs that visitors to the event could tuck into, and donated an array of lucky-draw prizes.
