Ten librarians from Johannesburg have chosen to polish their skills at UCT.
The 10 - who trek to UCT once a month for the year-long course - are among 30 public librarians from around the country who were identified by the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) to do postgraduate diplomas in library and information studies at UCT, the University of the Western Cape and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Carnegie Corporation of New York funded the LIASA initiative to the tune of R10 million over the next three years, to address the critical shortage of qualified librarians in the country.
