As part of UCT's 175th birthday celebrations, the Department of Communication and Development and UCT's photographic society is co-ordinating a photo search and photographic competition with the theme, 175 Years on – Changing Minds and Histories.
The competition is open to all UCT staff, students and alumni and 175 free disposable Kodak cameras will be handed out to the university community via faculties, departments and the SRC. The development of the film in these cameras is also free at all Campus Camera outlets. Cash and Kodak product prizes are also offered for winners in the open category for black and white or colour entries as well as for the historical photographs category. This category is open to anyone who has pictures of life at UCT, from its earliest days through to 2003. All pictures hidden in boxes under beds and in attics will be considered.
Campus Camera is also offering a 15% discount on all colour developing and a 10% discount on black and white development. Each entrant may enter a maximum of two photos in each category. (No borders, A4 mounted on white A3 board). The enlargement of these entries is also free.
Entry forms and competition rules are available from July 19 at all Campus Camera outlets, the Student Union helpdesk and Hiddingh Library, among others. The competition closes on September 10, 2004, and the winning entries will form the basis of an exhibition to run from the beginning of October.
