Let's talk the walk

27 February 2006

The Athletics Club is set to take on some of the hallowed-but-maybe-flawed theories of sports science, specifically related to athletics, in a new series of lectures.

Calling on some of the most respected names in the field, the talks promise to be informative and likely to raise a few eyebrows. The talks will be held in Lecture Theatre 3, Wilfred and Jules Kramer Law School Building on middle campus, starting at 19h00.

The schedule is as follows:

  • February 23, Dr Lindsay Weight will speak on Distance Running: Is there a valid minimum age?
  • Thursday, March 23, Bruce Longdon on What is Athletics Development?
  • Thursday, April 20, Prof Tim Noakes on The Central Governor Theory - How the mind sets the limits not the heart.
  • Thursday, May 18, Drs Lindsay Weight and Andrew Bosch on Mileage: Is it the be all and end all of road running?

There will be an entrance fee of R5 to defray costs.
