The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) 2023 calendar was full of momentous occasions, among the highlights being the reburial process of the Sutherland nine – a project that took almost seven years to complete. The project came about when the university conducted an audit and discovered that it had unethically acquired 11 skeletal remains from the community of Sutherland, almost 100 years ago. The university also launched its first inaugural UCT Day, a day of fun and games which allowed staff and students to unwind; but also a day of driving fundraising initiatives for students.
